Glossary term

PSP (Payment Service Provider)

The company processing an operator's deposits and withdrawals — connecting the gambling business to card schemes, banks and alternative methods.

PSPs run the money plumbing: accepting cards and APMs, routing to acquirers, handling payouts, managing fraud tooling and settlement.

Gambling is a hard vertical on purpose

As high-risk merchants (MCC 7995), gambling operators face restricted PSP choice, elevated fees, rolling reserves and sudden derisking — a PSP exiting the vertical with 30 days’ notice is a recurring industry event. Multi-PSP redundancy per market isn’t optimization, it’s continuity planning. Deposit success rate by PSP and GEO is among the highest-leverage numbers in the funnel: a two-point gain outperforms most marketing spend.
